Fernhill Landscapes is a landscape-design studio, and its site was built to move. INFIGO took a motion-heavy design and turned it into a WordPress build where the animation carries the work without getting in the reader’s way.
01 · The context
A design that only exists in motion
On a flat mockup this design was a set of stills. Everything that made it distinctive - a navigation that performs when it opens, galleries that slide - happened between those stills, which means it could not be approximated. Motion like that is either implemented properly or it reads as a gimmick.
02 · The build
Coded from the design, into WordPress
We coded the design into a WordPress build with the choreography written into the front end rather than bolted on afterwards. The studio manages its own projects and categories from the admin, and the site keeps the timing, the easing and the composition of the design whatever content is loaded into it.
The showpiece was the navigation. The quiet workhorse was a custom carousel that slides mixed content rather than just photographs, so each project is shown the way it deserves.
03 · The point
Effortless is the hard part
Motion that looks effortless rarely is. The work here was making the animation fast, smooth and consistent across screens, so what the visitor feels is polish rather than machinery. The site is still live on this build today, which for a design this particular is its own kind of proof.
