Elektro Union is a buying union of Norwegian electrical contractors - hundreds of member companies pooling their weight for better terms on insurance, vehicles, fuel, telephony, workwear and tools. INFIGO built the platform that ran both the public face and the members-only machinery behind it.
01 · The context
One site, two audiences
A union site has a split personality. The public half explains what the union is and why a contractor should join. The private half is where members actually get value: documents, contracts, entry points into external applications, and the negotiated prices the union exists to provide. Both had to live in one build, coded from the supplied design, working on a phone as well as a desk.
02 · The build
WordPress, plus the parts WordPress does not ship
We built the site on WordPress and wrote the pieces it does not come with: password-protected member areas, a document library organised by category and subcategory, and integrations reaching into the union’s own systems and applications. Off-the-shelf gets you a blog; the union needed a members’ portal.
The two integrations that did the heaviest lifting are the ones in the screenshots - a proximity search across the whole membership, and a product search wired directly into the union’s external price database, so a member checks a current negotiated price without leaving the site.
03 · The long haul
Handed on
The union has since moved to a new site built by others. The build shown here is the one that carried the membership through those years - public recruitment on one side, working member tools on the other, in a single codebase.
What we delivered
- A WordPress platform with a public site and a members-only portal in one build.
- A categorised, access-controlled document library.
- A proximity search and map across several hundred member companies.
- A live product and price search integrated with the union’s external database.
